I’m not
used to read comic books, but this love story got me hooked. It isn’t just a
love story, it has several thematic like sexuality, bullying, mental health,
friendship and family.
The story
starts with Nick discovering that his crush might not be as straight as he
thought and might actually have a crush on him as well. Through Nick and
Charlie’s relationship you discover how hard it can be to come out as gay, bi,
or anything else. As we follow them, we see that their families are supportive
(well, most of them), that being different at school might be very hard to live
and we’ll encounter the damage of bullying and what it might trigger (i.e.
eating disorder).
You’ll also
follow some of their friends and their blooming relationships.
It is fast
to read, enlightening and cute.
Is it a
good representation of a teenager coming out as gay or encountering eating
disorder? Honestly, I don’t know, but it feels authentic when you read it.
Note: The first 3 volumes are already out!
